Zamir Chorale Appoints Two New Employees

BOSTON -- Zamir Chorale of Boston welcomes Lidiya Yankovskaya as this season's assistant conductor and Hinda Tzivia Eisen as Zamir's 2008-09 Mary Wolfman Epstein Conducting Fellow. An accomplished musician and recipient of numerous awards and honors both in her native Russia and here in the U.S., Yankovskaya is a mezzo-soprano who, in addition to conducting, also plays percussion, violin and piano. Eisen is a senior at Boston University, majoring in religion, and is beginning her third season singing alto with Zamir. An alumna of HaZamir in New York, Eisen is the alumni coordinator for international HaZamir and conducted the a cappella choir at Camp Ramah in the Berkshires and Wisconsin. The Mary Wolfman Epstein Conducting Fellowship was established in Sept. 2000 by Scott Offen to train conductors in the area of Jewish choral music. For more information, visit www.zamir.org.


JNF Celebrating A New Marriage

BOSTON -- Jewish National Fund leaders gathered to celebrate the marriage of KKL/JNF Emissary Colonel (Res) Sharon Davidovich and Ora Rates as well the success of the 2008 campaign for Israel. More than 100 friends and donors joined together to toast the upcoming New Year. Event attendees included: Michael Lederman, Larry Cohen, Yadira and Todd Patkin, Ora Rates, Sharon Davidovich, Consul General Nadav Tamir, Consul Rony Yedidia, Jeffrey Davis, Sharon Freedman and Amy Parsons.


Gateways Honors Autism Expert, Tager-Flusberg

CHESTNUT HILL -- Helen Tager-Flusberg Ph.D. of Newton, is the honoree for Gateways' Sweet Sounds: An Afternoon of Jazz and Chocolate, Nov. 2, 4-6 p.m., Congregation Mishkan Tefila, Chestnut Hill. A professor at Boston University and its school of medicine, Dr. Tager-Flusberg is world renowned for her 25 years of work in autism research. Guests will enjoy a champagne and chocolate buffet and music by both professionals and Jewish day school bands. Event co-chairs: Lori Barnet and Laurie Gershkowitz; tribute chairs: Marcia and Mort Ruderman; Leslie and Alan Crane; Roni and Robert Pick; book chair: Sara Dickman. Israeli Fashion In The Spotlight

BOSTON -- On Sept. 18, Israeli designers made a splash on the international scene at the State Room as part of Boston Fashion Week 2008. CJP and the Consulate General of Israel to New England teamed up to salute the Israeli design crop. Many of Israel's top young fashion designers -- Hadas Tzur, Michael Fadlon for Mikusha, Liat Zarmon, Hagar Satat and Maya Meirav -- were on hand to provide a look at their newest styles and jewelry.
